  • Responsible for making sure clinical exam rooms have adequate and appropriate supplies, and ensuring that clinical equipment is in good working order.
  • Clean and restock pre-test and exam rooms between patients; clean the equipment in front of the patients to ensure cleanliness for each patient.
  • Check calibration of equipment and make adjustments or contact the lead technician, as necessary
  • Tracks and orders supply inventory (alcohol pads, FI strips, etc.) as appropriate
  • Tracks and reports to leadership/management the capture rate of all specialized testing
  • Create a warm and personalized experience for each and every patient. 
  • Acquaint all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed.Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
  • Obtain patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.
  • Perform blood pressure and ocular pressure testing
  • Fill-out appropriate forms and distribute appropriate literature.
  • Communicate with other staff members in a clear and concise manner.
  • Communicate with other ophthalmic assistants to facilitate proper patient flow.

  • Prepare work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses
  • Assist patients in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions
  • Prescribe, measure, and fit lenses for patient according to a written optical prescription or specification
  • Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit patient needs.
  • Sell goods such as spectacles, sunglasses, and other goods related to optical in general.
  • Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit clients, using various optical tools and hands. Verify patient satisfaction with the fitting
  • Evaluate prescriptions in conjunction with patient’s lifestyle visual requirements
  • Distribute and dispense optical orders once product is finalized and give proper instructions for the care of the products
  • Build relationships with patients by “connecting” and at times sending cards and thank you notes
  • Attend all necessary meetings including: All- Staff and Department

  • Handle and resolve patient inquiries and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain an organized and clean optical dispensary area.
  • Process eyewear orders and ensure timely delivery.
  • Perform adjustments and minor repairs on eyeglasses.
  • Collaborate with optometrists and other staff to provide seamless patient care.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in eyewear and optical 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in optical dispensing or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a patient-centric approach.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in measurements and data entry.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of optical products and terminology is a plus.
