Responsibilities
- Greet all patients and office guests in a professional, friendly, and welcoming manner.
- Gather preliminary patient data through comprehensive pretesting, including documenting chief complaints, reviewing medical and ocular history, measuring visual acuity, assessing eye movements, obtaining intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements, capturing retinal images, performing visual field testing, and conducting optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans.
- Educate patients throughout the pretesting process by explaining the purpose of each test and providing clear instructions to ensure accurate results.
- Accurately and efficiently document all testing results and patient information within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Educate and train patients on the insertion, removal, wear schedule, and proper care of contact lenses.
- Assist with specialty contact lens services, including scleral lenses and other medically necessary lens modalities, under the direction of the Optometrist.
- Support the practice’s myopia management program by educating patients and families on available treatment options and assisting with prescribed therapies and follow-up care.
- Assist the Optometrist during examinations and procedures as needed.
- Assist patients with lens selections by helping them understand their vision correction options and recommending products that best meet their visual and lifestyle needs.
- Maintain proficiency with current diagnostic technology and participate in ongoing training as new equipment, procedures, and advancements in eye care are introduced.
- Pursue professional development opportunities and industry certifications, with support from the practice, to enhance clinical knowledge and technical skills.
- Assist other team members as needed to ensure efficient patient flow and a positive patient experience.
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-3 years prior optometric technician experience preferred
- Adaptable and flexible with the ability to multitask
- Self-motivated and detail oriented.
- Interest in healthcare
- Strong communication skills.
- Must present a professional appearance
