As an Optical Technician, you’ll be the link between our optometrists and patients. Your role will be to ensure that every individual receives the highest quality of care, service, and support throughout their optical journey. Responsibilities

  • Conduct preliminary vision tests such as:

    • Visual acuity testing (distance and near)

    • Autorefraction and keratometry

    • Measuring intraocular pressure

    • Visual field screening

    • Depth perception, color vision, and pupil response testing

  • Document patient medical and ocular history accurately

  • Welcome and prepare patients for eye exams

  • Clearly explain each step of the testing process

  • Provide post-exam guidance, including:

    • Instructions for dilation or contact lens trials

    • Overview of prescribed treatments or referrals

  • Assist optometrists during eye exams or minor procedures

  • Prepare and sanitize equipment and exam rooms between patients

  • Manage patient flow to ensure efficient scheduling

  • Accurately enter data into Electronic Health Records (EHR) and maintain HIPAA compliance

  • Update insurance and billing information as needed

  • Schedule appointments and follow-up visits

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience working as an optometric technician or in a similar eye care clinical setting
  • Proficiency with pre-testing equipment

  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (Revolution EHR)

  • Familiarity with optical terminology, lens materials, and frame types

  • Ability to perform and interpret basic visual field tests

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to explain clinical procedures clearly and compassionately

  • Professional and respectful demeanor in patient interactions

  • Comfort working with pediatric, geriatric, and special needs patients

  • Accurate and timely data entry and chart documentation

  • Ability to manage clinical flow efficiently and anticipate doctor needs

  • Understanding of insurance verification and eligibility basics (vision vs. medical)

  • Capable of scheduling and confirming appointments and maintaining clinical logs

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting

  • Calm under pressure; can multitask in a fast-paced office
