Responsibilities
As Lead Technician, you’ll combine hands-on patient care with team leadership and daily clinical coordination.
- Lead, support, and motivate the technician team throughout the day
- Help coordinate daily clinical workflow and patient flow
- Conduct preliminary testing and diagnostic workups
- Obtain and accurately document detailed medical and ocular histories
- Prepare patients for comprehensive, medical, and specialty eye examinations
- Clearly explain testing and procedures so patients feel comfortable and informed
- Assist optometrists during examinations and minor procedures
- Anticipate physician needs and help keep the doctors’ schedules running efficiently
- Provide guidance and support to technicians during challenging patient encounters or clinical situations
- Help train, coach, and onboard new technicians
- Reinforce office protocols and ensure clinical procedures are performed consistently
- Review documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Accurately enter information into Electronic Health Records (EHR)
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality
- Ensure exam rooms, testing areas, and equipment are properly prepared and maintained
- Identify workflow problems and help develop practical solutions
- Communicate effectively with the front desk, optical department, providers, and management
- Step in wherever needed to keep the team moving and provide an exceptional patient expenence
Skills & Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who is not only clinically experienced but also ready to lead by example.
Prior clinical experience is required for this position.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience as an optometric/ophthalmic teclrnician, medical assistant, or in a similar clinical eye-care setting
- Previous leadership, training, or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of optometric terminology and clinical workflow
- Comfortable operating pre-testing and diagnostic equipment
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR); RevolutionEHR experience is a plus
- Understanding of visual field testing and other ophthalmic diagnostic procedures
- Strong documentation and charting skills
- Ability to recognize priorities and anticipate provider and team needs
- Understanding of basic insurance eligibility and medical vs. vision benefits
- Comfortable assisting pediatric, geriatric, and special-needs patients
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Confident providing direction and constructive feedback to team members
- Able to handle multiple priorities in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Dependable, professional, and willing to take ownership
- Able to work independently while still being a strong team player
