Technicians at Nilsen Eye Care pretest patients and begin the conversation about eye care needs. Their time with the patients helps maximize the doctors’ time while maintaining awareness of the entire schedule. Technicians must be able to: communicate well, retain information, and multitask in a high-volume work environment.
Responsibilities
The essential functions of the Technician coordinator include:
- Ensures readiness of all exam rooms including opening, closing, and sanitizing exam rooms daily ensuring a safe environment for all patients
- Utilizes technical skills to properly tests patient’s visual acuity which includes near, far, peripheral, depth, and color.
- Checks blood pressure to see it impacting vision
- Fits contact lenses to guarantee a correct fit.
- Over-refracts contact lenses using the phoropter to verify prescriptions.
- Preforms technical workups, and special training such as Insert and Removal, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and Visual Fields.
- Administers or removes contact lenses for patients as needed.
- Answers pages (using a unique wristband system) in a timely manner to ensure smooth patient flow.
- Completes the geographic forms to provide doctors with additional information.
- Utilizes strong communication and customer service skills ensuring a positive patient experience.

Skills & Qualifications
Technician qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Knowledge of optometry preferred but not required.
- Strong computer and math skills.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical ability to assist patients and move between testing stations and front desk on a regular basis
Type: Full Time (Hourly)
