Optometric Technician Responsibilities

  • Perform visual field screening, retinal imaging, and auto-refraction tests
  • Gather information about a patient's vision history
  • Assess eyeglass desires and purchasing plans
  • Instruct contact lens insertion, removal, care, and replacement 

Skills & Qualifications


PREFERRED SKILLS FOR OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN
  • The ability to work well with technology and various instruments
  • Extremely efficient, organized and resourceful..
  • Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff members.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE FOR OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN

Required: 

  • High School diploma

Preferred: 

  • Prior experience as an Optometric Technician or in the optical industry.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE FOR OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN 

Required: 

  • High School diploma

Preferred: 

  • A strong work history in customer service and ideally as an Optometric Technician
  • Carrying out diagnostic tests
  • Preparing patients to be seen by the Optometrist
  • Helping the front office with various tasks
  • Assisting the patient in making decisions about frames and lenses
  • Educating the patient in contact lens care

No experience necessary and no weekends required.  An Optometric Technician is the Optometrist's assistant. Optometric Technician helps with exams, use simple diagnostics, and educate customers on the products they have been prescribed. Often times, an Op Tech will also maintain and create schedules, assist in frame selection, and clean sophisticated ocular equipment. This role works closely with the Optometrist, which means it's one of the best places to continue to learn.
